2023 was truly a whirlwind 💜

Happy New Year y’all!

It really took everything in me to get out of the house for NYE. I’m still in sequester mode but I was determined to start this new chapter of 2024 in the best spirit possible. I can’t explain it, I just had this overwhelming feeling that I didn’t want to ring in the New Year curled up in bed.

A week ago I was in the hospital, just before Christmas and I still haven’t been able to eat a single solid thing in weeks. But I just couldn’t let midnight find me at home. However, 12:30a.m. found me in bed and asleep…and so did all of New Year Day. But that’s another story lol 😅

I have such a spirit of gratitude for the year 2023 and the family and friends that supported me through it. I spent the last six months stuck at home, going to the transplant clinic, or spending weeks in the hospital. I learned so much about what strength is and what it looks like when the people who really care about you show up for you to give you the love and support you need.

My transplant journey has to continue in 2024 but I know who my people are and I know that I can trust them to show up for me with love and support when I need them the most.

I’m wishing you all a magical New Year. I hope you get the chance to experience love, support, and connection from those around you. Spend this year in laughter and joy, and making wonderful memories.

Hey Friends,

For the past few months I’ve been going through the process of receiving a bone marrow transplant. Over the next little bit I’ll be sharing each day of my journey.

Some of you may know that I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease at birth. It’s something I always kept close to the chest, not a secret but an intimate detail of my life that those closest to me have always known about.

But now I’ve decided it’s time to bring you all along on my journey with Sickle Cell Anemia and share with you what my bone marrow transplant process has been like.

You may know of someone who has gone through a transplant or has suffered with a rare and #ChronicIllness. This is dedicated to them.

Manifesting that 2022 will be a better year than 2

Manifesting that 2022 will be a better year than 2020 and 2021. But also being realistic with myself and not setting New Year's resolutions that I'll probably never do...or as I like to call them, casual promises to myself that I'm under no legal obligation to fullfil.

So this year, if you're wondering whether I'll be on time or not...I won't be. Most of my plans for the year consist of staying home and eating tacos on the couch, and my main goals are to sleep and pet lots of dogs. I'm also no longer going to feel guilty about spending all my money on orders from Amazon Prime 😂

I think 2022 is gonna be a pretty damn good year 😉

You should be in therapy 👀

Nah, but really. Even happy people need therapy. It isn't just for earth-shattering life crises. If you plan on having any interpersonal relationships...ever, then therapy is for you. If you plan on being a hermit living remotely, off of the land, drinking your recycled pee water, then you can just disregard this post.

I didn't grow up with a family that discussed mental health. In fact, mental health chatter was pretty stigmatized. The mentality was, therapy was for crazy depressed people & "what goes on in this house doesn't leave these four walls". When one of my sisters got married & she started going to therapy, conversations surrounding counseling started to shift more positively. She & her husband also did couples therapy together. Not because anything was wrong in their marriage, but to make sure they put in work to help things NOT go wrong. Soon, her husband even had his own personal therapist.

Their relationship, & studying & minoring in psychology helped me realize the power in therapy. I'm the type of person that's always seeking personal growth & trying to push myself outside of my comfort zone. So I got a therapist...just because. & I know my future-husband & I will be in marital counseling from jump. I realized mental health really should be treated exactly the same as physical health. It requires regular checkups & care, just like we do for our bodies. & while nobody has the perfect marriage, I saw the value that regular individual & marital counseling sessions added to my sister's relationship & their ability to effectively communicate with one another.

I meet weekly with my therapist. Sometimes I have major things to speak about & sometimes things are a-ok & we just focus on personal development. Other times we chat about what I can do to improve & better navigate my relationships with friends, family, & even co-workers. Counseling isn't meant to change who you are, at your core, it's meant to unlock your highest potential by refining your qualities, traits, & habits. Therapy helps you become the happiest, most productive, & most loving version of yourself. So hot tip, get yourself a therapist!💚
